HAXEY HOOD – 5th January – each year. A Traditional event that focuses on a contest of the towns and villages around Haxey. It is a kind of large rugby football scrum (called the “sway”), which pushes a leather tube (called the “hood”) to 1 of 4 pubs, where it remains until the following year’s game.

The Towns being the villages of Westwoodside & Haxey, and Houses being the public houses (pubs) of those villages. The pubs are as follows:

Carpenter’s Arms – Newbigg, Westwoodside
Duke William Hotel since 1730 – Church Street, Haxey
The Loco – 31 Church Street, Haxey
Kings Arms – Low Street, Haxey


FESTIVAL OF THE PLOUGH – 20th September 2015.The Festival provides a wonderful local traditional day out for all the family.The festival begins at 10:00 am with the Blessing of the Plough and runs till around 4:00 pm when prize giving takes place and the main raffle is drawn. All money raised is donated to local charities.

Anual Tractor Run. Organisers of the 2015 Epworth Tractor Run reported that double the amount of vehicles took part this year, 84 in total.

The event welcomes vintage drivers to the start with drinks and bacon sandwiches at the local pub. The tractors then follow a 30-mile route around the central Isle of Axholme area.
